In his opening remarks, Admiral Yudo Margono stressed that the cooperation among militaries of ASEAN member states plays an important role, contributing to building an ASEAN of peace, prosperity, and security. He asked ASEAN countries to make commitments to peace, prosperity and security in the region and to continue to build regional strategic trust through dialogues and cooperation.

The Indonesian Admiral also affirmed ASEAN’s centrality and long-term partnership with ASEAN partners via ASEAN-led foreign policy. He believed that ACDFM-20 will bring about positive things, help strengthen cooperation to build a region of peace, prosperity and security.

On approving the agenda, delegates heard reports on the outcomes of the 20th ASEAN Military Intelligence Meeting (AMIM-20) and the 13th ASEAN Military Operations Meeting (AMOM-13) held in June 5.

They highly appreciated the adoption of the concept document on establishing the ASEAN Military Intelligence Community (AMIC) at AMIM-20. Vietnam will host an AMIC leadership conference in the soonest time.

At the meeting, delegates will discuss security situations in the region and the world, particularly traditional and non-traditional security challenges with impacts on ASEAN. They will also review the achievements in cooperation among ASEAN militaries, and map out orientations to enhance this practical and effective cooperation in the coming time.

As scheduled, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong, head of the Vietnamese delegation will deliver an important speech at this event.
