In an interview granted to the press, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang highlighted the significance of the trip. She said that amid complex international developments and new demands on international cooperation, the summit provides an important opportunity for Viet Nam to exchange views and engage in dialogue with BRICS members and partner countries on major issues in regional and global governance, particularly economic and development issues related to the interests and priorities of emerging economies and developing countries.

This year’s BRICS Summit marks the 20th anniversary of the grouping’s formation and development. From a forum for economic and financial policy coordination, BRICS has evolved into a multilateral cooperation mechanism with an increasingly important role and influence, helping promote cooperation and strengthen the voice and contributions of emerging economies and developing countries on global issues.
Viet Nam has been a BRICS partner country since June 2025. Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang said that the Vietnamese Prime Minister’s attendance at the summit is highly significant, as it represents an important step in implementing the foreign policy outlined by the 14th National Party Congress and the Politburo’s resolution on international integration in the new situation, particularly the policy of further promoting and elevating multilateral diplomacy, actively and responsibly participating in addressing common regional and international issues, and contributing to peace, friendship, cooperation and development.
She added that the participation will also help Viet Nam advance its policy of shifting from a “participant” to a “rule‐shaper.” It will further strengthen the country’s voice in developing international frameworks, rules and standards, contributing to peace, cooperation and sustainable development while enhancing Viet Nam’s international standing in line with its historical and cultural stature and position.
The summit will also enable Viet Nam to pro-actively grasp development trends and major cooperation orientations within BRICS and other multilateral mechanisms. Discussions will provide a deeper understanding of opportunities and challenges, as well as experience and cooperation orientations from partners, creating a stronger basis for developing and refining policies and building an independent, self-reliant economy with increasingly effective, substantive and comprehensive international integration.
In addition, the Prime Minister’s trip will further consolidate and deepen Viet Nam’s relations with India, the BRICS Chair 2026, as well as with BRICS member and partner countries.
As a BRICS partner, Viet Nam is expected to participate actively and responsibly, contribute ideas, and promote specific initiatives and forms of cooperation consistent with its interests, capabilities and conditions.
During the trip, the Prime Minister will also conduct bilateral activities in India. According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang, these engagements are expected to build on the momentum of bilateral relations, maintain high-level exchanges and translate into action the common understandings, agreements and major orientations reached by the top leaders of the two countries.
Although the working trip will last less than two days, the Prime Minister will hold important engagements with Indian leaders and partners alongside his multilateral activities. The discussions will seek to strengthen political trust, deepen political and diplomatic relations as well as defense and security cooperation, and enhance strategic coordination on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Economic, trade and investment cooperation, science and technology, and infrastructure connectivity will receive strong attention, with the aim of achieving substantive and concrete results in Viet Nam-India relations. The two sides will also discuss and deepen other important areas of cooperation, particularly education and training, tourism, culture and people-to-people exchanges.
Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang expressed confidence that, building on traditional friendship, high political trust and increasingly strong convergence in vision, interests and development aspirations, the Prime Minister’s trip would create further momentum for Viet Nam-India relations to become stronger, more substantive and more effective, in line with the spirit of “Shared Vision, Strategic Convergence, Practical Cooperation.” It will bring tangible benefits to the people of both countries and make a positive contribution to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
