Vietnam is Russia’s top partner in Asia-Pacific region
PANO - Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Chernyshenko co-chaired the annual 23rd meeting of the Vietnam – Russia Inter-Governmental Committee on Economic, Trade and Scientific-Technological Cooperation which was held virtually on October 29.
At the event, the two sides emphasized that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, bilateral political exchanges, especially those at high levels, have been maintained via videoconference. Bilateral economic and trade has still grown at an encouraging pace, while their cooperation in energy, oil and gas, industry and agriculture have been effectively carried out.

The two leaders suggested expanding cooperation in promising fields such as anti-pandemic, banking or renewable energy.
Speaking at the event, the Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam treasures and wishes to further enhance cooperation with Russia and stays ready to create favorable conditions for the two countries’ energy, oil and gas firms to foster cooperation. He also agreed to step up a project on nuclear science and technology research center, and other cooperation fields.
For his part, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Chernyshenko described Vietnam as a top significant partner of Russia in Asia-Pacific, especially in Southeast Asia. He emphasized that Russia wishes to expand and deepen cooperation in fields of potential and need of the two sides.
The Russian diplomat agreed to continue carrying out and further promote the efficiency of free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union.
