The Granma daily, the voice of the Cuban Communist Party, reports that the decease of Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang is a painful loss of the Cuban Government and people regarding the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Cuba and Vietnam.

The Prensa Latina News Agency holds that President Tran Dai Quang proved to be a leader with a brilliant mind and high sense of responsibility during his presidency from April 2, 2016 when he was elected as the President of Vietnam until his decease on September 21, 2018.
Prensa Latina also writes, after the news about President Tran Dai Quang’s decease was officially published by Vietnam’s press and media, Cuba’s Ambassador to Vietnam Lianys Torres called the Cuban News Agency and expressed her deep sorrow. She said, “President Tran Dai Quang was a close friend of Cuba, who had continuously promoted the time-tested friendship between the Cuban and Vietnamese peoples.”
The Cuban Ambassador shared with the Cuban News Agency, just some days before, President Tran Dai Quang had still been able to receive Mr. Salvado Valdés Mesa, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party, First Vice President of the Council of State and of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba, who was on an official visit to Vietnam and attended activities in celebration of 45 years since Cuban Leader Fidel Castro visited a liberated zone in the Vietnamese central province of Quang Tri in September 1973.
Recalling the meeting between the two leaders of Cuba and Vietnam, the Cuban Ambassador said, “President Tran Dai Quang highlighted the perpetual friendship and solidarity of the Vietnamese people with the Cuban people and Cuban revolution. The Vietnamese President also stressed that he was so proud of being the last foreign head of state in the world that was received by Cuban Leader Fidel Castro in November 2016.”
To continue the story told by the Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam, the Prensa Latina News Agency also mentioned the event, in which President Tran Dai Quang was presented by the then First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party, President of the Council of State and Council of Ministers with an “Jose Marti” Order on his official visit to Cuba in September 2016. According to the news agency, the “Jose Marti” Order is the most noble award of the Cuban State that is bestowed on a person with great contributions to the country and people, and the Cuban State conferred the order on President Tran Dai Quang in recognition of his significant contribution to cementing the brotherhood, unity and friendship as well as expanding comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples of Cuba and Vietnam.

“We have lost an adorable friend”
As one of the 18 Cuban medical experts working in Vietnam, Dr. Jose Hernandez could not help hiding his sorrow when hearing that President Tran Dai Quang had passed away.
It is sad news for all 18 Cuban medical staffers working in Vietnam. During his presidency, President Tran Dai Quang contributed significantly to bilateral relations between Vietnam and Cuba, and the bilateral cooperation saw concrete developments in medicine. We are so sorry for President Tran Dai Quang’s passing. We have lost an adorable friend,” Dr. Jose Hernandez shared his feelings with the Prensa Latina News Agency.
The Cuban News Agency also cites deep condolences that Cuban students have extended to the State, Government and people of Vietnam. It reports, “Leaders of Vietnam, particularly President Tran Dai Quang, received us [Cuban students studying in Vietnam] like their children.”
In an open letter published by the Prensa Latina News Agency, a group of Cuban students write, “A few days ago, Cuban and Vietnamese people were happily celebrating 45 years of the first visit to Vietnam by Cuban Leader Fidel Castro. The celebration was another demonstration of the solidarity and friendship of the two nations. We, Cuban people, will never forget the great sentiment and sympathy the Vietnamese people shared with us when Cuban Leader Fidel Castro passed away. We would like to make our last farewells to President Tran Dai Quang and share the pain with the Vietnamese people.”
Meanwhile, the Cuban Radio of Habana and the website CubaSi report that Cuban Chairman of the National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernández has sent condolences over the passing of President Tran Dai Quang to the Vietnamese people. In his letter of condolences, he writes that he personally treasures time-tested friendship between Cuba and Vietnam, and that Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang was the last foreign head of state meeting Cuban Leader Fidel Castro before his death on November 25, 2016.
According to the Cuban Radio of Habana, the Cuban National Assembly has paid a minute’s silence in memory of President Tran Dai Quang at the beginning of its working session.
