The World Bank (WB), on June 7th, approved a loan of US$ 160 million for Vietnam to run projects on the improvement of the management of water sources in Mekong Delta.

The loan will be due to be repaid in 35 years' time.

The loan will finance such projects that are aimed to better protect and more effectively manage and use water resources in the local area in an effort to maintain local agricultural production and provide access to water sources for local people.

The project will also to assist local people in adapting to climate change.

Earlier, the Vietnamese Prime Minister had passed a list of projects to manage irrigation networks serving agricultural and rural development in Mekong Delta, which would use ODA sources.

These projects would cost more than US$ 210 million in aggregate.
