PANO – The Vietnamese garment sector is struggling to grow in a global field characterized by fierce competitiveness, delegates said at a seminar entitled “Assessing the Impact after 2 years of WTO Membership on the Garment Sector”.

The seminar was held by the National International Economic Cooperation Committee in coordination with the Vietnam Youth Company under the auspices of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ho Chi Minh Politics-Administration Academy on November 18th in Hanoi.

In 2007, garment export values stood at US $7.8 billion, up 2.2 fold against that of 2004 and accounting for 15 per cent of the total national export turnover.

2008’s garment exports are expected to reach US $9.5 billion.
