Viettel to remove roaming charges for its subscribers in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam
PANO - The military-run telecommunications group Viettel will stop counting roaming charges for subscribers of Metfone (Viettel in Cambodia), Unitel (Viettel in Laos), and Viettel in Vietnam from January 1, 2017, announced the group on December 14.
Accordingly, the mobile network operator will apply Vietnam’s domestic rates to phone calls among Viettel’s subscribers in the three countries.
With this decision, Viettel has become the first business in the world to exercise the policy. This is part of its efforts to realize Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s commitment to boost trading and cultural activities among peoples of three countries at the 9th Summit of Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area.
Major General Nguyen Manh Hung, Viettel’s Director General, said that this practical policy demonstrates the close relations among three Indochinese countries and aims to promote communications among Cambodian, Lao, and Vietnamese people as well as trading activities among businesses.
