Viettel completes the installation of more than 22,000 new 5G base transceiver stations in 2025, exceeding its Government commitment targets. |
The nomination acknowledges Viettel Telecom’s pioneering efforts in ensuring universal access to modern mobile connectivity and essential digital services, particularly for vulnerable groups in rural, mountainous, border and island areas, where persistent and inclusive approaches are required.
“Connected Vietnam 2025” was a comprehensive nationwide strategy integrating infrastructure, devices, people and digital services. A key highlight was Viettel’s structured transition approach to ensure citizens can keep pace with new technologies rather than being left behind.
For the first time in Vietnam, Viettel implemented a “3-in-1” strategy: migrating users from 2G to 4G, upgrading voice services to VoLTE and expanding 5G simultaneously. The company proactively identified 2G subscribers needing support and adopted a door-to-door outreach model to guide residents in remote villages and communes in adapting to new technologies.
Since 2024, Viettel has migrated nearly 10 million 2G device users, provided more than 800,000 free 4G handsets to disadvantaged subscribers with total funding exceeding VND 300 billion, and expanded 4G/5G coverage to 98 percent of the population. In parallel, it accelerated 5G deployment by installing over 22,000 new base transceiver stations in 2025, surpassing commitments made to the Government.
Together with infrastructure expansion, Viettel Telecom has addressed affordability barriers by introducing accessible 5G service packages starting from VND 100,000, and partnering with major device manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung and Oppo to bring 5G technology closer to consumers.
Transitioning from a traditional telecom operator, Viettel Telecom is progressively affirming its role as a technology enterprise serving the community, placing people at the center of digital transformation. The GLOMO Awards nomination marks a significant milestone in Viettel’s international integration and reflects global recognition of its long-term social commitment in Vietnam.
The GLOMO Awards ceremony is scheduled for March 4, 2026, during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
