The event, held as part of the activities to mark Viettel's 20 years of officially providing mobile services and celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - 2024), was attended by Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam.

Since Viettel received license to use the 2,600 MHz frequency band to develop the 5G network, it has installed more than 6,500 base transceiver stations (BTS) nationwide, covering all 63 provinces, centrally-run cities, industrial parks, tourism sites, seaports, airports, hospitals, and universities.

Viettel's 5G speeds could range from 700 Mbps to 1 Gbps, ten times faster than 4G, with nearly zero latency. The network is being deployed on both 5G NSA (non-standalone) and 5G SA (standalone) architectures.

While the 5G NSA was successfully implemented in 2019, the 5G SA represents a fully independent 5G network, offering ultra-low latency around 1 ms, suitable for real-time applications such as autonomous vehicles, remote surgeries, smart factories, and virtual reality classrooms.

On this occasion, Viettel announced 11 prepaid and eight postpaid packages for individual customers. Notably, each customer will have their own digital space, with all 5G packages including free cloud storage and access to the 4K TV360 streaming service. Customers with 5G-compatible devices can use the service without needing to change their SIM cards.

According to Major General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of Viettel, the business rapidly researched and tested 5G technology, and successfully connected the first 5G call in May 2019 with speeds comparable to 5G networks worldwide.

He added that this event marked the first time Vietnam can keep pace with the world in applying the latest technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, turning Vietnam into one of the first countries successful testing 5G services. Viettel has become the first operator testing 5G services in all 63 provinces and cities.

With significant control over many core network systems, Viettel has positioned Vietnam among the top five countries to produce 5G network devices, following Sweden, Finland, China, and the Republic of Korea. This demonstrates Viettel's commitment to ensuring Vietnam’s position among the leading nations in 5G commercialization.
