As part of the project, Viettel will provide modern medical equipment and management software at a total cost of nearly VND 1.6 billion for local hospitals in An Giang, so that they can have sufficient medical machinery to screen 30,000 newborns for congenital heart diseases.

Children with heart diseases from poor families will also receive financial assistance from the “Hearts for Children” program for surgeries.

Statistically, about 12,000 babies are born with innate heart diseases annually and 25 percent of them with serious heart diseases should be operated in the first year to avoid severe complications and live longer.

According to a representative from Viettel’s branch in An Giang, the “Hearts for Children” program has organized 50 congenital heart disease screening programs and provided free surgeries for more than 4,500 child-patients across the country over the past 10 years.
