Accordingly, Song Thu purchased and applied European technologies to production. Recently, the corporation bought a Rolls-Royce electro-mechanic ship lift, which is the latest and most advanced system in the world shipbuilding industry. Song Thu is the first business in Vietnam and the second in Southeast Asia, after a Singaporean company, to operate such kind of system.
Because of the global economic recession in general, the unit has shifted to producing purpose-built ships as the priority. Actually, not only Vietnam but also other countries now order vessels in order to carry out search and rescue, firefighting, missions and oil and gas services, and so on.
Over the past years, the corporation has built a series of warships for the Vietnam People’s Army and exported to Germany, Mexico, the Middle East, and Australia more than 30 specialized vessels, including oil spill response ships, oceanographic ships, fast-crew supply ships, rescue ships, and salvage tugs. Notably, the shipyard launched a dredger, the TSHD2000, for Rosmorport company from Russia – a shipbuilding power in the world.
Additionally, the launch of a multi-purpose vessel, CBS 8005, for the Vietnam Coast Guard Force marked the growth and development of the Song Thu Corporation’s shipbuilding capacity. The ship is one of the seven large vessels the Government ordered to build a powerful Vietnam Coast Guard Force by 2020.
Moreover, before the Lunar New Year 2018, the Song Thu Corporation won a contract to build four high-speed patrol ships for the Border Guard Command. This again shows the trust of the clients in the company. It will be a further motivation for its troops and employees to contribute to the local shipbuilding industry development.
