The second International Tea Festival opened in the northern mountainous province of Thai Nguyen on November 9.
The biennial festival aims to honour growers and promote tea products and tea culture in the province and Vietnam in general.
Addressing the ceremony, Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung praised farmers for their efforts to make Vietnam’s tea famous internationally.
He thanked the international community for their assistance to the development of the tea sector in Vietnam.
He said he believes that together with endeavours made by Thai Nguyen province and other tea-growing localities as well as the support of international friends, Vietnam’s tea industry will further develop and the tea culture will be further promoted both at home and abroad.
A wide range of activities including a tea culture festival, a tea carnival, conferences on tea products and tourism promotion, the Miss Tea Land Contest, an exhibition of photos capturing the beauty of Vietnam’s land, people and Thai Nguyen tea, and a market introducing specialties of Vietnamese ethnic groups are taking place during the three-day event.
Thanks to favourable natural and weather conditions, Thai Nguyen tea products are presented in many cities and provinces nationwide and are also exported to foreign markets. The province’s tea export value accounts for one third of the country’s total.
