Over the past 15 years of establishment and development, Unitel has had its broadband Internet covering all cities and provinces of Laos, accounting for 57 percent of the market share. Its modern telecommunications services have helped narrow the gap between urban and rural areas, contributing to local socio-economic development.

Unitel takes the lead in providing information technology solutions and digital finance to Lao government and people, contributing to Laos’ national digital transformation, e-government building and facilitating local people’s financial and payment activities.

It has also been active in social programs. Most recently, it completed the upgrading of the Laos-Vietnam Combat Alliance Monument in Xiengkhouang province, the symbol in commemoration of Vietnamese volunteer troops who sacrificed their lives to defend Laos. It has ensured smooth communications for troops in border areas, assisted Lao military hospitals in digital transformation as well.

At the event, on behalf of the Lao and Vietnamese Presidents, Gen. Chansamone Chanyalath and Gen. Phan Van Giang handed over the First-class Labor Order and the Second-class Labor Order, respectively, to Unitel.

In his speech, Gen. Giang applauded and congratulated Unitel on its attainments. He thanked the Lao side for creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese defense enterprises in general and Unitel in particular to constantly develop, contributing to the general development of the great friendship, special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

He emphasized that Unitel is a model of Vietnam-Laos economic cooperation and solidarity. The company’s success not only confirms stance and wisdom of Uncle Ho’s soldiers, but also helps raise Vietnam’s image and position in international arena.

He hoped that Unitel will further thrive, constantly innovate, take the lead in providing modern telecommunications services and technologies, and engage in all socio-economic fields in Laos.

The Vietnamese defense chief confirmed that the Vietnamese and Lao Defense Ministries always support and create conditions for Unitel to operate more effectively, upholding its symbol of Vietnam-Laos sincere and effective collaboration.

Within the framework of the celebration, Unitel launched its commercial 5G service, marking a major turning point in the journey of pioneering technology and digital transformation in Laos, turning Laos into Viettel's third market for 5G commercialization in 2024.
