The Ca Mau Gas–Electricity–Fertilizer project management board, on July 2nd, officially handed over the Ca Mau fertilizer plant to the Petrovietnam Ca Mau Fertilizer Company (PVCFC) in Khanh An Commune, U Minh District, Ca Mau Province.
The event marked the completion of the project of Ca Mau Gas – Electricity – Fertilizer and the plant started commercial operation from now on.
Earlier, the Ca Mau plant finished its trial run, meeting all technical standards, and then produced the first batches of fertilizer, the quality and trademark of which was recognized and certificated by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The US$ 900 million-Ca Mau plant started construction in July 2008 on an area of 62ha with capacity of 800,000 tons of products a year. Its production can help the nation save US$ 400 million from importing fertilizer of the same kind and meet 40 per cent of the domestic demand, exceeding the demand for fertilizer of the same kind of farming activities in the Mekong Delta region.
After being operational, the plant runs at 95 per cent of its designed capacity.
