State President applauds national women’s football team
PANO – State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc highly valued Head Coach Mai Duc Chung and members of the Vietnamese women’s football team following their victory over Thailand in the 2023 World Cup’s play-off round on February 2.
In his letter of praise, the State President appreciated efforts by the female footballers, who are away from their families during the lunar New Year (Tet) 2022 - the most important event of Vietnamese people, to play in India.

State President Phuc underlined that the players overcame difficulties triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic and maintained their top form and determination to bag a convincing victory over Thailand. Notably, it was also the team’s first win at the World Cup 2023 qualifiers.
Additionally, he also stressed that the victory earned by the national women’s team on the second day of the lunar New Year 2022, after that by another win of the men’s team over China earlier in the final round of the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers, brought great joy to Vietnamese football fans on the first days of the lunar New Year.
He took this occasion to send his Tet greetings and wishes to the team’s coaches and players, hoping that they will maintain their competitive spirit to obtain the best results in upcoming matches, thereby promoting Vietnamese women’s football at Asian and bigger events.
Reportedly, the Vietnamese female footballers will meet with the team from Taiwan (China) on February 6.
