The competition attracted the participation of 86 male athletes, who are soldiers from ADAF affiliated units, aged 27 to 35 from six teams of Divisions 367, 370, 372, 375, 377 and the Air Force Officer Candidate School.

At the competition, athletes will compete in nine weight categories ranging from 54kg to 84kg following single-elimination sparring format. Each match consists of three rounds, each round lasts three minutes, with one-minute break between rounds. Winner of each match will be the one with the higher score or having the opponent knocked out or disqualified.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Sr. Col. Ngo Quoc Chung, Deputy Political Chief of the ADAF Service, emphasized the significance of the competition. He said that the unarmed martial arts competition in 2024 is to evaluate and improve the quality of physical and sports training of the service’s affiliated units. At the same time, through the event, the service will select candidates and establish its unarmed martial arts team to compete at the Defense Sports Competition 2024.
Sr. Col. Ngo Quoc Chung urged the organizing panel and referees to adhere strictly to the competition regulations while ensuring objective and accurate assessment during the event. He also called on the athletes to follow all rules, respect referee decisions, observe military discipline, and compete with the spirit of solidarity, honesty, nobility, and determination-to-win.
The competition is scheduled to last until August 14.
