A contemporary dance ‘Maybe Forever’ which is a collaboration in which the artistic worlds of choreographers Meg Stuart and Philipp Gehmacher flow together will be on Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City stage on June 4 and 8 respectively.
With the lullabies of singer-songwriter Niko Hafkenscheid, the dance of Meg Stuart and Philipp Gehmacher feature love, pain and memories.
Meg Stuart is considered one of the key figures in the international contemporary dance scene. After training and then beginning her career in New York, she is now based in Europe. In 1994 she founded her own company, Damaged Goods, and has worked since 2003 with the Volksbühne in Berlin. In her choreography she draws on the reservoir of everyday movements and creates a completely new aesthetic of dance.
While Philipp Gehmacher attended the London Contemporary Dance School and received his BA in Contemporary Dance in 1996, followed by an MA at the renowned Laban Centre London. After 10 years in London he returned to Vienna. Having choreographed “good enough” for the opening of Tanzquartiers Wien, the first full-length piece “mountains are mountains”, and other co-productions with prominent European dance theaters, his work is increasingly influenced by performance and video art. In 2009 he was the first from the field of dance to be awarded the Austrian Award of the Ministry of Education Art and Culture.
Performance will be held from 8pm at the Hanoi Opera House and Ho Chi Minh City Opera House. Free tickets are available at Goethe Institute in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
