Amidst the bustling atmosphere, Do Quang Tuan Son, a student of Class 9A1 at Yen Nghia Secondary School excitedly shared that he was very happy because this was the first time he had participated in a literary-artistic composition contest about national sea and islands. His poem “Island soldiers” conveys his pride in the beauty of his hometown’s sea and expresses deep gratitude to soldiers performing their tasks at sea.

The contest had attracted over 3,000 entries from students, including paintings, poems, and short stories about the national sea and islands, and the Vietnam Coast Guard’s officers and soldiers just only 20 days after its launching. This meaningful contest aimed to praise the beauty of the nation’s sea and islands as well as the Coast Guard troops, and encourage officers and soldiers in charge of protection, rescue, and assistance to fishermen, determined to safeguard the sovereignty over maintain security and order on the national sea and islands.
According to the organizing panel, each work were almost unique, affirming the immense creativity of the students. Many works painted with wax, watercolors, and lacquer are beautiful and highly artistic. Notably, unique 3D drawings requiring meticulousness and creativity created a highlight for this meaningful contest.

Also the sentiments and gratitude of the students for the national sea and islands, and Coast Guard soldiers were presented in every story and poem.
It was difficult for the organizing panel to select 60 typical paintings and 60 literary works from thousands of high-quality entries for the final round.
Nguyen Dang Ngoc Linh (Class 9A0, Dong Mai Secondary School), who won First Prize in the literature category with the short story “Blue Sea Color,” and Nguyen Khanh Van (Class 8A1, Yen Nghia Secondary School), who won First Prize in the painting category, joyfully held, “We participated in the contest with the highest spirit of enthusiasm and creativity. We feel very proud because Vietnam’s sea are incredibly beautiful, and we hope that other students will continue to promote this positive spirit so that each work will help boost patriotism and spread the love for national sea and islands in the community.”
The contest has become a useful playground with profound education value, helping students look toward the national sea and islands and understand the hardships of soldiers over the sea. Each of their works was a message, a priceless encouragement sent from the rear to the Vietnam Coast Guard’s officers and soldiers. The students have truly become messengers bringing love from Hanoi to the sea.

According to Nguyen Lien Loc, Principal of Dong Mai Secondary School, who inspired students to participate in this meaningful contest, the greatest success lies not only in the awards, but also in the maturity of the students’ awareness and affection for the national sea and islands, and the Vietnam Coast Guard.
