The contest brought together 100 contestants who had achieved top results in the online preliminary round from four local schools. Participants competed in four sections namely “Setting Sail,” “Crossing the Waves,” “Reaching the Shore,” and “Marking Sovereignty.” Questions covered knowledge about Vietnam’s sea and islands, the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), Vietnam’s Law of the Sea and the Law on the Vietnam Coast Guard, as well as regulations on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Students were also tested on their understanding of the Vietnam Coast Guard’s functions and duties, along with the nation’s history, geography, and traditions of defending the Fatherland.

The contest also incorporated communication activities on drug prevention, anti-bullying, and behavioral skills in schools. It aimed to raise awareness and foster responsibility among students in safeguarding national sovereignty and maintaining security and safety in national sea and islands.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Political Commissar of Coast Guard Region 2 Senior Colonel Tran Hong Que emphasized that the contest has spread widely, nurturing patriotism and love for the nation’s sea and islands. It provides students with valuable knowledge about the strategic role of sea and islands in national construction and defense, while deepening their understanding of the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies on settling maritime affairs in accordance with international law.

At the event, ninth-grader Le Linh Dan from Trieu Trach Junior High School won first prize. She shared that the contest helped inspire pride and responsibility among young people to protect Vietnam’s sovereignty over sea and islands.

Outstanding contestants awarded

The organizing board awarded one first, two second, two third, and five consolation prizes. Ten outstanding contestants were selected for the provincial-level round to be held in March 2026. The board also presented four air coolers to local schools, 28 scholarships worth VND 1 million each, and 20 bicycles to students in difficult situation.
