They also introduced a culture, tourism, and trade space of Ha Giang province in Ho Chi Minh City on July 17.

At the event, Ha Giang aimed to popularize its tourist attractions, including Dong Van Karst Plateau, which is recognized by UNESCO as a global geopark. The province also hoped to seek and expand tourism partnerships with other localities nationwide during the event.

Over the past five years, the average growth of tourists to Ha Giang has stayed at over 15 percent. Last year, the province received 1.4 million visitors.

Recently, this northern province and four other Vietnamese localities were listed in the Top 20 backpacking destinations in 2020 by Hostel World.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the province could only welcome about 258,000 tourists in the first half of this year, a reduction of 60 percent against the same period last year.

Regarding the orientation of future tourism development, Director of the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Hong Hai said that the province will concentrate on developing tourism in low mountainous areas, Dong Van Karst Plateau, and western mountainous areas . It will also seek investment in luxury resorts, develop green agriculture, exploit mineral and hot springs in the west, open more tours for tourists to experience local products, and boost sports tourism, such as mountain biking and motor racing, and parachuting.
