Vietnam wins a gold at 2018 Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad
PANO - Seven outstanding Vietnamese students brought home a gold, four silver and two bronze medals from the 2018 Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad hosted by Russia, according to the Quality Management Department under the Ministry of Education and Training on May 21.

The gold medalist was Pham Duc Thang, the 12th grader from the Hanoi University of Science’s High School for Gifted Student under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Hoang Xuan Nhat from Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Khanh and Nguyen Minh Tung from Hanoi and Trinh Huu Gia Phuc from Thanh Hoa province won silver medals while the bronze medals went to two 12 graders Nguyen Hoang Hai Minh from Hanoi and Duong Quoc Hung from Lam Dong province.
The medalists were selected from 15 Vietnamese students who participated in an online examination at the University of Engineering and Technology under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi on May 13, 2018.
The 2018 Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad drew the participation of 586 students from 31 countries and territories. In this competition, Vietnam ranked third after China (six golds) and Russia (6 golds).
Last year, Vietnam was placed 7th with five silver and one bronze medals.
