Earlier, on May 8th and 9th, 598 contestants from 27 countries and territories took part in an online competition. According to the organizing board's regulations, each team could send a maximum of 100 competitors to the event, and only six students with the highest results could be chosen to compete for medals.
Three gold medallists, including Nguyen Tien Trung Kien, Nguyen Viet Dung, and Phan Duc Nhat Minh, together with two silver medallists, Do Ngoc Khanh and Pham Van Hanh, are students of the Gifted High School of the University of Natural Science under Vietnam National University. The bronze medallist comes from the Gifted High School of the Hanoi National University of Education.
These medals, the best results obtained by any of the Vietnamese teams after taking part in the competition three times, showed the improvement of the high schools' educational system in general and each training course in particular.
