The sum was revealed by Lieutenant General Nguyen Huu Chinh, President of the Vietnam Association for Victims of AO/Dioxin (VAVA), in a recent interview given to the People’s Army Newspaper.

According to the VAVA President, even though peace was restored 50 years ago, Vietnam still has millions of AO victims. To help these victims, VAVA at all levels has constantly improved the effectiveness of their activities, mobilized all resources to ease the pain that AO victims are facing. Among the meaningful activities, the care for AO victims during Tet holiday is paid due attention to.

Last Tet, associations presented 251,451 Tet gifts, totally valued at over VND 242.65 billion, to AO victims.

This Tet, VAVA launched the “Full springs” campaign in mid-December last year, in which money is deposited in the MBBank’s account number 1961 or via QR code to VTC Pay e-wallet. Donation information is made public at addresses https://thiennguyen.app and 1400.vn/xoadiunoidaudacam.

VAVA’s affiliates encouraged their members and domestic and international organizations to join hands to support AO victims as well.

Regarding last year’s achievements, Gen. Chinh said that the association raised over VND 520 billion from resources at home and abroad, helping AO victims in a practical and effective manner. Regarding the fight for justice, the association applied new approaches, gaining more international support to deal with AO consequences in Vietnam. In 2024, VAVA welcomed 52 international delegations to Vietnam and all of them expressed their support to Vietnamese AO victims.

This year, to promote the accomplishments, the association continues to renovate its methods of resource mobilization with more focus on AO victims and its affiliates at grassroots level, and seek more practical measures to assist localities in effectively and responsibly supporting AO victims. 

Some practical activities, according to the VAVA President, include financial support in health care, housing construction, vocational training for AO victims so that they could rise in life and integrate in society.

The struggle to call for justice for AO victims of Vietnam will be strengthened with more responsible engagement of international organizations to relieve AO disaster in Vietnam.

Apart from afore-mentioned activities, VAVA and its affiliates will continue to implement projects for AO victims sponsored by domestic and international organizations and individuals, maintain the text-messaging program, and constantly improve the quality of care and rehabilitation for AO victims.
