Troops in Quang Ninh doing utmost to protect locals' property

Military units and localities have pro-actively followed the developments of the situation and Storm Talim, made through preparation of force and vehicles, and cooperated with local people to respond to circumstances.

In particular, the Naval Service has sent a working delegation to check the storm prevention work of units and factories, which are stationed in Hai Phong city. During the inspection, the mission requested units to reinforce houses and take different measures to ensure safety of personnel and facilities, strictly observe combat readiness regulations at all levels, and keep forces and vehicles on standby to carry out missions if requested.

As of 6p.m. on July 17, all naval ships in Hai Phong and Quang Ninh moved to storm shelters as regulated. Forces and vehicles of Brigade 170 of Naval Region 1 and Commando Brigade 126 of the Navy have been prepared to help locals respond to circumstances.

According to a report from the Staff of the Vietnam Border Guard Command, all border guard units stationed from Phu Yen to Northern provinces updated around 230,000 people on more than 52,000 ships on the developments of the storm, thus helping them stay away from it. Border guard troops also guided tens of thousands of ships to take shelter from the storm.

In Thanh Hoa province, the provincial military command requested its agencies and units to prepare “on-the-spot” forces and vehicles and cooperate with local forces to effectively respond to circumstances to protect locals’ lives and property. They were asked to regularly report to the civil defense, natural disaster response, and search and rescue standing office.

According to the provincial border guard command, as of 9a.m. on July 18, 6,477 vehicles with 25,029 workers took shelter. All vehicles have been regularly updated on the developments of the storm and closely kept in  touch with functional agencies, families, and local authorities.  

Speaking at the meeting of the National Steering Board for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Deputy Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Binh said that not only have military units well responded to the storm at their barracks, but also sent forces to help locals reinforce their houses and guide ships to take shelter.

To respond to the first storm, the Military Region 3 Command requested affiliated agencies, units, and localities to closely follow its developments, strictly maintain combat readiness, and develop measures to ensure safety. Together with building response plans, units and agencies of Military Region 3 were asked to give advice to local party committees and authorities to take storm prevention measures and evacuate locals to safer places when requested and handle circumstances in a timely manner.
