The funeral witnessed delegations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

The delegation of the Central Military Commission and Ministry of National Defense led by General Luong Cuong, Director of the General Department of Politics; the delegation of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, led by its Deputy Chief Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hong Huong; and the delegation of the General Department of Politics, led by its Deputy Director Lieutenant General Le Hien Van, paid homage to the late general.

At 12:30 p.m., the same day, the memorial service for Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen was held at the National Funeral Hall.

Delivering the funeral oration, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc highlighted the great contributions of Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen to the revolutionary cause.

Phuc emphasized that with more than 80 years of Party membership, Nguyen has devoted his life to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. In any positions, he excellently fulfilled the tasks assigned by the Party, State, military and people. His name and career were closely associated with the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail. As a commander of the Truong Son Command, Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen directly commanded troops and youth volunteers to construct the strategic transportation route from the North to the Southern theater, contributing to the liberation of the South and national reunification cause.

The Prime Minister added that in peacetime, he was a responsible, creative, and enterprising leader with great contributions to construction, industry, and transportation fields.

“Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen’s passing-away is a great loss of the Party, State, military, and people,” Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed.

Later the same day, a burial service for Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen was held at 5:00 p.m. at Vinh Hang Cemetery in Ba Vi district, Hanoi.
