As a consequence of past wars, over 75% of Da Nang’s land is still contaminated with UXO. Since the day of liberation, although significant efforts have been made to clear UXO, the city remains heavily affected. More than 600 people have been injured by unexploded bombs, mines, and explosives.
Consistent with its principles and purposes, the Bombs and Mines Action Support Association of Da Nang has carried out a variety of activities, focusing on dissemination programs to raise public awareness of dangers of UXO and prevention measures; improving the living standards of victims; and partnering with organizations and individuals to provide assistance for those in need.
Over the past 10 years, the association has mobilized more than VND 1.5 billion, which has been used to provide both direct financial aid and livelihood assistance to improve victims’ quality of life. With these resources, the association has donated 30 breeding cows, two motorbikes, two sugarcane juice carts, 66 savings books, built one gratitude house, and distributed thousands of practical gifts to families affected by UXO.

To enhance the effectiveness of its work, the association has built an extensive network of local chapters, expanded its membership, and continuously trained its staff and volunteers to be capable, dedicated, and responsible. Moving forward, the association plans to conduct new surveys to update the list of victims and areas at risk of UXO, and to intensify public awareness campaigns, especially in schools, to strengthen community knowledge of landmine hazards and the significance of Vietnam’s national program for war legacy settlement.
