The Ministry of Information and Communications hosted a workshop in Hanoi on October 28 to update the Hanoi-based press outlets and information and communications officials in the north on ASEAN and UNESCO.

Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung said numerous activities related to ASEAN and UNESCO have been conducted but publicity work promoting them are yet sufficient.

The event presented opportunities for participants to seek the information exchange mechanism to enhance the efficiency of communication work on the ASEAN Community and UNESCO activities, Hung added.

Participants discussed recent activities of UNESCO Vietnam, such as “The Memory of the World” program; opportunities and challenges facing Vietnamese enterprises in regional integration and climate change, among others.

Ambassador Pham Sanh Chau, Secretary General of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO underlined that Vietnam has actively participated in the organization’s activities.

Over the past years, numerous tangible and intangible cultural heritages of Vietnam have been recognized by UNESCO, Chau said.

The country has also submitted the profile of “The Mother Goddess Religion of the Vietnamese” to UNESCO for recognition of this ritual as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity, he added.

The country has also put plan afoot to set up two Centers for Maths and Physics Studies under the auspices of UNESCO to implement the education program for global citizens, according to Chau.
