A series of practical and interesting activities have been held across the country in response to the Action Month for Children and the International Children’s Day (June 1).

In Hanoi, the Phu Nu Thu Do (Capital’s Women) newspaper launched a contest entitled “Writing about your favourite books”. The contest, which is open to all children nationwide, aims to improve the reading culture as well as personality and social knowledge for kids.

As from May 30, the Kim Dong Culture Centre at 19 Hang Bai Street, Hoan Kiem district, is hosting a programme named “Vuon Co Tich” (Legendary Garden), featuring art performances jointly staged by children in the city and well-known artists.

The Tuoi Tre (Youth) Theatre in Ngo Thi Nham Street will stage daily a variety show, “Ngoi Nha Cua Be” (House of Children), featuring circus and drama performances by actors, dancers and comedians.

The Au Co Performance Centre in Huynh Thuc Khang Street has unveiled a circus-drama show titled “Bay Vien Ngoc Rong” (Seven Dragon Stones) starring famous comedians Xuan Bac and Tu Long.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the Circus Theatre and the Puppet Troupe have pooled their talents to create a show featuring dance, circus and puppetry. The show will be performed every night at the 23-9 Park in District 1 until June 5.

Children have many other options for laughs at the newly-opened Kim Chau Theatre in Nguyen Thai Binh Street in District 1, Hoang Thai Thanh Drama Troupe in Le Quy Don Street in District 3, and IDECAP in Thai Van Lung Street in District 1, which are famous addresses for kids’ plays.

Meanwhile, the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on May 29 launched this year’s voluntary youth campaign with the theme of “Young volunteers for community and social welfare.”

The local youths will clean up 40 streets, help 50 poor households as well as provide free medical check-ups and medicines for 3,000 children and poor people.

On the same day, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the Hue Teacher Training College also launched a campaign encouraging students to send SMS to raise funds in support of children with extreme difficulties throughout the country.
