PANO – Army Corps 12 (Truong Son Construction Corporation) on May 19 held a ceremony to commemorate the 58th anniversary of the traditional day of Truong Son soldiers (May 19, 1959) and posthumously awarded the “Heroes of People’s Armed Force” titles to late commanders. Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen, former Commander of Truong Son Corps (the descendant of Unit 559) and Major General Le Hien Van, Deputy Director of General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, attended the ceremony.
Handing over "Hero of People's Armed Forces" titles to the families of the two commanders
On May 19, 1959, a special military mission was tasked to open the route and transport military supplies to assist the Southern theater. After the Southern liberation in 1975, units taking part in the building of Truong Son Trail were established as Army Corps 12 and then re-branded as Truong Son Construction Corporation in 1989, with the new task of doing business and being a strategic unit for building important projects of the Ministry of National Defense. Over the past years, generations of troops and workers of the corps have brought into play their traditions as well as successfully fulfilled their assigned missions.
On this occasion, on behalf of the State President, Army Corps 12 posthumously awarded the “Heroes of People’s Armed Force” titles to Major General Vo Bam, former Commander and Political Commissar of Unit 559 and Senior Colonel Le Xy, former Political Commissar of Truong Son Corps.
