PANO – The Center for Management and Conservation of Cultural Heritage of Hoi An has recently received 14 Hoi An Prison-related items, which were presented by patriotic prisoners living in Quang Nam province and Da Nang city.

The keepsakes mostly consist of handkerchiefs, pillow covers, sweaters, table cloths, notebooks used by patriotic prisoners from 1960 to 1975. After tens of years, the items have still been carefully kept by their very owners. And now the keepsakes have been donated to the center to be preserved and showcased in public.

Since the beginning of the year, the center has received nearly 35 items related to the Hoi An Prison. The prison was built with 4m-high walls on an area of 2ha by the French colonialists to detain those joining patriotic movements in Quang Nam and provinces in the Central Vietnam. From 1908, many patriots, including revolutionaries Phan Chau Trinh, Huynh Thuc Khang, and Chau Thuong Van were jailed there.
