At the ceremony, the Vietnamese side handed over four sets of remains found by task force units during the 129th joint field activities (from October to December 2017).

The sets of remains had been verified by forensic experts of both countries in Hanoi and will  be re-verified on arrival in Hawaii, the first landfall of the repatriation flight. Addressing the ceremony, the US side thanked the Vietnamese side and highly appreciated the humanitarian policy, good will and the full and effective cooperation of the Government and people of Vietnam.

The search and collection of remains of US troops missing in action during the war in Vietnam is the humanitarian activity held by the Vietnamese and US governments. This has been the 142nd hand-over of remains of US troops missing in action since 1973.
