Fierce battles against Pol Pot invading forces took place at Border Station 649. Typically, from June 18 to 26, 1978, the station’s troops firmly protected the national sovereignty and ten troops of the station laid down their lives.
The Party and State bestowed the “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces” on the border guard station in December 1979, in recognition of its feats-of-arms. Additionally, a memorial stele was erected after nine months of construction in commemoration of the station’s fallen border troops.
