Defense leader checks the implementation of search and collection of martyrs’ remains
PANO - A mission of the National Steering Committee 515 for search, collection, repatriation, and verification of fallen soldiers' remains, led by Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem, on June 3 inspected the implementation of this year’s plan for search and collection of martyrs’ remains in Military Region 1 (MR 1).
At the working session, Major General Nguyen Dinh Chieu, MR1's Deputy Political Commissar reported that over the past years, the unit has effectively implemented the Political Bureau's Directive No.24-CT/TW and the Prime Minister's Decision 1237/QĐ-TTg on search and collection of fallen soldiers’ remains, especially promoting information dissemination, building maps of possible burial places, and identifying collected remains.
Since early last year, MR 1 has surveyed 20 areas and collected 54 sets of remains of martyrs, of which 11 were identified by DNA tests.
At the meeting, delegates also pointed out challenges and proposed measures and recommendations to the National Steering Committee 515 to continue synchronously implementing solutions and promoting the search and collection of fallen soldiers’ remains in the 2021-2025 period.
Concluding the working session, Gen. Chiem highly appreciated the unit's task implementation results over the past time. He asked Military Region 1’s Steering Committee 515 to continue to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the Politburo's Directive and the Prime Minister's decree and the plan of the National Steering Committee 515 on search, collection, repatriation, and identification of fallen soldiers' remains.
Earlier, the mission offered incense to fallen soldiers at the memorial house dedicated to martyrs of Company 915 in Gia Sang ward, Thai Nguyen city.
