Military Region 2 praised for effective implementation of search and collection of martyrs’ remains
PANO – A mission of the National Steering Committee 515 for search, collection, repatriation, and verification of fallen soldiers' remains, led by Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem, worked with Military Region 2 on the implementation of the plan for search and collection of martyrs’ remains in 2020, on June 2.
At the working session, Major General Tran Ngoc Tuan, Deputy Commissar and Head of Military Region 2’s Steering Committee 515, briefed delegates on outcomes reached by Steering Committees 515 of Military Region 2 and relevant provinces and units. Accordingly, the steering committees have thoroughly embraced the resolutions and directives of higher levels on search and collection of fallen soldiers’ remains and instructed the search and collection efforts in Vietnam and foreign countries, built maps of possible burial places, verified collected remains, and held solemn memorial and burial services for martyrs.

Since 2019, Military Region 2 has collected 104 sets of remains of martyrs in different localities in the region and Laos.
At the meeting, delegates also pointed out challenges and proposed measures to raise the effectiveness of the plan.
General Chiem praised Steering Committees 515 of Military Region 2 and relevant provinces and units, especially search and collection teams in Laos and Ha Giang province, for their recorded achievements in searching and collecting martyrs’ remains over the past time.
