Searching for the missing

On September 14, heavy rains happened in Lao Cai province as well as the Northwestern provinces, causing severe floods. Overcoming difficulties, troops did their utmost to search for the missing after the terrible floods.

According to Senior Colonel Pham Phung Hung, Commanding Officer of the Lao Cai provincial Military Command, at 20:30 on September 12, floods occurred in the streams of Nam Pa, Nam Than, and Nam Cang. As of September 14, the flash floods killed five people and injured seven others.

After receiving the information, the unit made recommendations to the provincial People’s Committee and mobilized 440 troops and local people to rush to the scene for search and rescue missions.

Meanwhile, Military Region 2 also sent a delegation to the area to inspect the tasks of overcoming the natural disaster consequences in Sa Pa town and inquire after the victims and their relatives.

At 10:30 on September 14, functional forces found one victim at Nam Cum hydroelectric dam area, Muong Bo commune, Sa Pa town, about 15km from the location of the flash floods.

Whole political system joining hands to support the flood-hit victims

Over the past time, the town’s authorities have directed medical forces to take care of the injured victims while working with the town’s Military Command to reach the scene and direct search and rescue tasks.

Vice Chairman of Sa Pa town People’s Committee Pham Tien Dung held that after the flood, the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs of Sa Pa town; the Red Cross Society chapter of Lao Cai province; the Red Cross Society chapter of Sa Pa town provided money in cash for the victims.

In order to quickly overcome the flood consequences, the province’s leaders have directed Sa Pa town to restore the traffic system while mobilizing troops to move local people to safer places.
