PANO - According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 16:00 on December 27, typhoon Phanfone was about 480km Southeast of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) islands.
This is the eighth storm to hit the East Sea (South China Sea) this year with winds near its eye reaching 90-115km per hour. It is slowly moving westward at 10-5km per hour before it is expected to weaken into a low pressure area.
Ahead of this situation, the Vietnam Border Guard Command reported that its 5,600 troops and 248 vehicles are ready to deal with the storm’s possible consequences.
In addition, as of December 27, border guard forces in coastal provinces and cities from Quang Binh to Ba Ria-Vung Tau have coordinated with local authorities to instruct nearly 56,760 vehicles and 271,520 people to stay updated with the latest movements of the storm.
