An art performance at the program
The event, held by the MR, the provincial Party Committee, and People’s Committee, was attended by Dinh La Thang, Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, representatives from the MR and the province, former Con Dao prisoners of war, troops, and the locals. It was part of activities to bring New Year atmosphere to Con Dao and strengthen the connection between mainland people and islanders as well as military-civilian unity.
Apart from dances and songs praising troops, national seas and islands, and the beauty of the heroic island, the program included an exchange with Lieutenant General Pham Van Dy, the MR’s Political Commissar who impressed the participants with his deep understanding about the history and tradition of the land and people. The MR’s leader affirmed the Party’ and State’s consistent viewpoint of firmly defending national seas and islands.
The exchange with former Con Dao prisoners and troops on mission in the district touched the hearts of the participants. Retired Lieutenant General Chau Van Man, Hero of the People’s Armed Forces, recalled the courage and unyieldingness of Con Dao prisoners. Despite being barbarously tortured by the enemy, their confidence in the Party and the success of the revolution remained unchanged.
Captain Nguyen Van Cuong, Commissar of Radar Station 32 of Air Defense Division 367, who has celebrated New Year in Con Dao for 6 consecutive years showed his responsibility for the mission of safeguarding national seas and islands. He added that he was touched by local authorities’ and people’s love for him.
Speaking at the program, Nguyen Thi Yen, Standing Deputy Secretary of Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial Party Committee, affirmed that the program was the mainland people’s humble gifts for Con Dao troops and people and the province has conducted various activities to help troops and islanders have a cozy, happy, and economical Tet.
In the framework of the program, leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, and MR7 paid tribute to fallen soldiers at Hang Duong Martyrs’ Cemetery, presented gifts to policy beneficiaries, needy locals, former Con Dao prisoners, and troops on mission on the island.
Earlier, the Vietnam Museum of Military History in association with the MR’s Political Department handed over a 3D museum to Con Dao Museum and exhibited some videos and photos about the MR’s armed forces.
