Naval troops rescue distressed fishermen
PANO – Ships of Naval Flotilla 129 of the Saigon Military Port of the Vietnam People's Navy successfully rescued and took 12 fishermen on board trawler BD99137TS captained by Pham Van Danh ashore on October 10.
Reportedly, on October 6, the trawler was caught in a shoal while fishing tuna in the waters of Da Tay Island (West London Reef) of Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago. The captain immediately sent a mayday signal for help.

Approaching the distressed trawler |
After receiving the information, Ship 624 of Flotilla 129 rushed to the scene for a search and rescue mission.
Due to the rough sea and high waves, which almost destroyed the trawler, the trawler’s captain decided to abandon it and Ship 624 took all fishermen to Da Tay Island.
On October 8, as ordered, Ship 741 of the flotilla, which was on duty near Da Tay Island, started to take the distressed fishermen safely ashore. Then, on October 10, the ship handed over the fishermen to their localities and families after 40 hours of travel.
