Naval troops launch program to protect fishermen
PANO – Naval Region 3 Command and Departments of Agriculture and Rural Developments of Da Nang city, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien - Hue, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai provinces yesterday launched a program on supporting fishermen in the 2019-2020 period.

The program aims to raise the effectiveness of activities to support and protect Vietnamese fishermen while fishing in open sea and encourage them to fish safely, sustainably and legally as well as to build whole people’s defense disposition at sea.
According to the signed contents, relevant units will promote information dissemination to raise fishermen’s awareness of the important role of the sea, treaties and agreements on maritime boundary delimitation between Vietnam and other countries in the region and Vietnam’s legal documents on the sea and safe and sustainable exploitation of marine resources. Naval troops will also help fishermen in trouble at sea, conduct search and rescue missions, protect fishermen’s lives and property and create favorable conditions for them to fish at sea.
Meanwhile, the provincial and municipal departments of agriculture and rural development, border guard commands and relevant local units will launch information campaigns to mobilize fishermen to join hands with naval troops to protect national sovereignty over the seas, islands and continental shelf.
On the occasion, the organizers presented gifts and national flags, lifebuoys and first aid kits to 100 fishermen from the six provinces and cities.
