According to Major General Nguyen Xuan Kien, Director of the Department of Military Medicine under the MND, over the past time, the MND has issued a number of dispatches, established inspection delegations, and directed agencies and units in the military to team with relevant forces to effectively control COVID-19 in pandemic-hit localities and ensure safety for political events of the Party, State, and military, and implement military-defense tasks.

Attentively, the MND has sent a great number of troops to help Ho Chi Minh City and Southern localities to curb the fourth COVID-19 outbreak and engaged in the national vaccination program. Under the direction of the MND, various field hospitals for infectious diseases and mobile military medical teams have been established to give timely treatment to COVID-19 patients. These deeds have helped beautify the images of Uncle Ho’s soldiers among locals, tightening the military-civilian bond. Scientific research and international cooperation have also been boosted, contributing to COVID-19 prevention and control efforts of the nation.

In his concluding speech, General San recognized and applauded the whole military’s COVID-19 prevention achievements. He asked troops to continue embracing higher levels’ directives, resolutions, and instructions, especially the government’s regulations on “safe adaptation, flexible and effective COVID-19 control.”

The deputy defense minister requested leaders of agencies and units to strictly manage the number of troops and maintain the Health Ministry’s 5K regulations in all activities, and actively prevent infection from outside into their units.

They should also double check pandemic prevention plans, reinforce forces, procure more equipment, medicines, and chemicals, push up COVID-19 vaccination process, improve troops’ material and spiritual life, and award individuals and collectives with best COVID-19 prevention performance. Strict control at land and sea borders must be focused on as well.

Regarding the vaccination for troops, the head of the committee stressed that it needs to be sped up and the military will strive to provide two COVID-19 shots to all troops by the end of this year.
