At the meeting, General San, who is also Head of the Defense Ministry's Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, listened to the report of the Head of the Department of Military Medicine Major General Nguyen Xuan Kien. Accordingly, the military has prepared 190 quarantined sites for over 11,000 people, sent 38 PCR test machines to 18 medical establishments, and organized 1,543 groups to collect COVID-19 test samples. The defense ministry has built 10 field hospitals for COVID-19 treatment.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the largest COVID-19 hotbed in Vietnam currently, the Department of Military Medicine has mobilized over 2,300 medical personnel and the Defense Ministry sent 400 staff and nearly 11,000 medical equipment items to assist the COVID-19 prevention and control work.

In Hanoi, military troops have been erected 22 COVID-19 checkpoints and three quarantined zones. The military has organized 143 groups to collect COVID-19 test samples, seven test labs with 25 PCR testing machines, 38 vaccination teams and 13 taskforce teams.

Vehicles of the Department of Transportation under the General Department of Logistics has transported 7 million of COVID-19 vaccine doses and attached equipment since July 9.

Speaking at the event, General San applauded the General Department of Logistics and relevant agencies of the defense ministry, particularly in directing the COVID-19 prevention and control work in the whole military. In addition, he urged the Department of Military Medicine to continue reviewing the capability of the military medical force at major units, building concrete plans to establish field hospitals for COVID-19 treatment in Hanoi and Northern localities, and preparing adequate medical supplies in case of more complicated developments of the pandemic.

The deputy defense minister required relevant units to prepare forces and vehicles to enhance the COVID-19 vaccination campaign, actively support pandemic-hit people, and ensure physical health for troops in any circumstances.
