Delivering a report at the ceremony, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, said that the Ministry of National Defense sent 71 athletes to join the Vietnamese sports delegation to compete at the 31st SEA Games. Military athletes gained 49 medals overall, including 26 golds, 15 silvers and 8 bronzes. Notably, swimmer Tran Hung Nguyen clinched 4 gold medals and broke two SEA Games records in the 400m medley and 4x200m freestyle relay. Runner Nguyen Van Lai gained two gold medals in the 5,000m and 10,000m events, to name but a few.
Congratulating the athletes on their success, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong stressed that their achievements were a pride of not only the military sport sector but also the country’s one. He hoped that the athletes will continue to bring into play their results, actively practice to prepare for the 9th National Sports Games in September, 2022.

Also at the ceremony, the defense ministry honored members of the L2FH Rotation 3, who have just completed tasks at the UNMISS. During their time at the U.N. mission, the hospital’s personnel completed all training sessions following requirements of higher levels and effectively dealt with the complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic, contributing to ensuring stability and peace in the locality and receiving high appreciation from the local authority and people.

At the event, the defense ministry’s leaders presented the second-class Labor Order to non-commissioned officer Lieutenant Tran Hung Nguyen, the third-class Labor Order to non-commissioned officer Major Nguyen Van Lai, 22 certificates of merit of the Prime Minister to athletes with gold medals, and 25 certificates of merit of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to athletes with silver and bronze medals. The organizing panel also presented certificates of merit of the Defense Minister to 2 collectives and 7 individuals, certificates of merit of the General Staff to 7 collectives and 7 individuals.
Praising the excellent achievements of the L2FH Rotation 3, the United Nations awarded the medal “For the U.N. peacekeeping cause” to its personnel while the Commander of the UNMISS presented the certificate of merit to its 5 officers. The Ministry of National Defense has requested the State President to award the third-class Fatherland Protection Order to the L2FH Rotation 3, and proposed the Prime Minister to present the certificate of merit to Lieutenant Colonel Trinh My Hoa, the hospital's director; the Defense Minister to award certificates of merit to 1 group and 8 individuals; the General Staff to award certificates of merit to 2 groups and 17 individuals.
