According to Deputy Political Commissar of the Lai Chau provincial Border Guard Command Senior Colonel Le Cong Thanh, since the beginning of this year, the provincial Border Guard’s Party Committee has directed its Youth Union chapter to build a plan on organizing activities in 2023, including the “March in border area” program. The provincial Border Guard Command has cooperated with other provinces to disseminate Vietnam Law on Border Guard, protection of territory and security in border areas, the implementation of national goal on sustainable poverty reduction and socio-economic development in mountainous, remote, and border areas in the 2021-2025 period.  

The provincial Border Guard Command has directed youth organizations to collaborate with localities to participate in economic development, hunger elimination and poverty reduction, new-style rural area building in border areas. These activities have encouraged youths to promote their vanguard spirit and creativeness, contributing to building a strong borderline and “people’s heart” posture and protecting national sovereignty.

The program was an opportunity for youths in Vinh Yen city to show their love for homeland and sea and islands through practical activities and their responsibility for safeguarding national sovereignty and security in border areas. 

Within the framework of the event, participating youths attended a flag-saluting ceremony at border marker 62 on the Vietnam – China borderline in Po To hamlet, Huoi Luong commune; visited and had artistic and sports exchange with and presented gifts to troops of Huoi Luong Border Post; gave gifts to locals in Huoi Luong.

In response to the “March in border area” program in 2023 launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Federation, youth organizations in Vinh Yen city presented a lightning system, worth VND 30 million, to Chin Chu Chai hamlet, Can Thang commune, Lai Chau city; a water purifier and two guitars, worth VND 10 million, to Huoi Luong Border Post; gifts, worth VND 10 million in total, to people in the border commune of Hoang Then; a drum set and 200 gifts, worth VND 80 million in total, to students of San Thang commune Primary and Secondary School.

Secretary of Vinh Yen’s Youth Union chapter Nguyen Ngoc Tuan said that this program offered a chance to youths across the countries to show their love for the Fatherland and pay gratitude to those who are carrying out missions in border areas.  The event was also to educate youths about patriotism and love for noble national sovereignty, encouraging them to train and make more contribution to national construction and defense cause.
