These positive outcomes have come from the force’s effective realization of the Prime Minister’s Directive No.01/CT-TTg on implementing the “Whole people engage in protecting national territorial sovereignty, border security in the new situation” movement.

Joint efforts to safeguard national borders

These days, on the patrol routes along the nearly 230 kilometers of the border from Dinh Lap bordering Quang Ninh province to Trang Dinh bordering Cao Bang province, one can easily spot patrol teams made up of border guard troops and local people. They patrol border markers, clear vegetation, install warning signs, and repair border trails.

Patrolling at marker 1035 in Quoc Viet commune, the final point where the Ky Cung River runs from Vietnam into China, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Dac Cuong, Second-in-Command of the Border Post of Binh Nghi Border Gate, shared that his unit is tasked with managing and protecting more than 30 kilometers of the border and 78 markers. Since 2024, the unit has conducted more than 50 patrol and inspection sessions with the participation of 607 turns of border guard personnel and 134 local militiamen and policemen.

According to Tran Van Tung, head of the Quoc Viet commune Military Command, the joint patrol conducted by the Border Post of Binh Nghi Border Gate and functional forces in communes is organized regularly, particularly during high-level periods, contributing to maintaining local political security and stability, enabling people to focus on farming and production with peace of mind.

Located at the Northern gateway of the country, Lang Son province boasts nearly 230 kilometers of borderline and 474 border markers. With synergy of the entire political system, local people and local border guard troops, a firm security posture is formed.

In Lang Son province, concrete roads extend all the way to border markers. That is the result of a special campaign entitled “Building border marker patrol roads, protecting the border” launched by the provincial People’s Committee in 2021.

Consolidating “people’s heart posture”

Border protection movements in Lang Son province are not just a slogan or directive. They are materialized through creative and community-specific models. Carrying out such movements as “Vietnamese bamboo rampart in border areas,” “Lighting up border patrol roads,” and “Every citizen is a living border marker,” border posts in coordination with local authorities and people have planted nearly 18,000 bamboo trees along more than 16 kilometers of the border, creating both scenery and natural fencing. In addition, 1,244 solar-powered streetlights have been installed along 47 kilometers of border roads.

Attentively, local border guards, citizens and other forces have contributed nearly 38,000 labor days to build over 61 kilometers of patrol roads to 302 border markers.

It is worth noting that many households and individuals have volunteered to manage the border and border markers, actively contributing to protecting the nation’s territorial sovereignty, shining the spirit of solidarity among and national pride of ethnic minority people in border areas. With great support and useful information from local people, over the past decade, the border guard force of Lang Son province has successful handled dozens of major drug-trafficking cases.

Senior Colonel Dao Quoc Thao, Commanding Officer of the border guard force of Lang Son province, said that the people’s heart posture is demonstrated through not only border protection but also local people’ improved lives. A series of models and movements have been carried out effectively, helping transform the border areas in Lang Son province. To date, 99% of local households have access to electricity and clean water. The rate of poor and near-poor households in 2025 is expected to drop by 12.02% compared to 2015.

The aforementioned outcomes in Lang Son province are vivid evidence of the effectiveness of the “people’s heart posture” in safeguarding territorial sovereignty and national border security in the new situation with active engagement of local border guard troops and citizens.
