Troops won’t rest while people still struggle

On November 11 morning, troops from Division 968 of Military Region 4 continued to deploy to heavily flooded areas such as Vy Da, Hoa Chau, and Phu Xuan wards to help residents recover from flood damage.

Corporal Hoang Dinh Quan, from Company 2, Battalion 4, Regiment 19, said that his unit’s motto was ‘as long as the city is flooded and people still face difficulties, soldiers won’t rest.’ Therefore, though they had been wading through dirty water for many hours, causing swelling and irritation, seeing streets, schools, and clinics cleaned up made them forget their fatigue.

Watching the soldiers of Division 968 working tirelessly in muddy water, Vo Thi Thuy Dung, Principal of Thuy Van Primary School in Vy Da ward, said emotionally, “Although the water hasn’t fully receded, troops of Division 968 came early to help. Thanks to their support, our school will soon be ready to welcome students back.”

Division 968’s troops also cleaned up mud, debris, and waste at local health centers and markets and disinfected public areas. Le Thi My Chau, a vendor at Phu Xuan ward’s Tay Loc Market, shared, “The flood this year was huge, damaging many goods, and piles of waste gave off a terrible smell. Without the soldiers, it would have taken much longer to clean the market.”

The same morning, the Women’s Union Organization of the Hue Municipal Military Command and a volunteer group prepared and delivered 300 free meals to patients at Military Hospital 268 under Military Region 4. For seriously ill patients, soldiers personally brought meals to their rooms. Ho Thi Kieu Anh, aged 63, said, “The meals are delicious, nutritious, and clean. We truly appreciate the soldiers’ care that warms our hearts during these difficult, rainy days.”

In response to requests from local universities and colleges, the Hue Municipal Military Command sent skilled technicians to offer free repair of motorcycles. Nearly 20 members of the Dien Chau Motorbike Club from Nghe An province also joined the efforts. According to non-commissioned Major Ho Trung Tin, many technicians worked through lunch and into the night to fix and return damaged vehicles as quickly as possible.

With the joint force of nearly 40 mechanics, about 200 motorcycles are checked, repaired, and serviced for free each day.
