Earlier, implementing higher-level directives on medical evacuation missions in Truong Sa, VNH South dispatched an EC225 helicopter, tail number VN-8620, along with its flight crew to carry out the operation.

At 6:15 p.m. on May 2, the EC225 helicopter took off from Vung Tau Airport to Tan Son Nhat Airport to pick up a military medical team from Military Hospital 175 before continuing its flight to Truong Sa.

After receiving the two patients, the helicopter immediately departed for the mainland, landing in Ho Chi Minh City at 2:35 a.m. on May 3. The patients were promptly transferred by medical staff to Military Hospital 175 for emergency care.

The two patients were identified as Tran Dinh Hung (born in 1977, from Nghe An province), who suffered multiple severe injuries, and Vo Van Khao (born in 1971, from Quang Tri province), who was diagnosed with a rib abscess. Both were working in Truong Sa.

Due to the severity and complexity of their conditions, which exceeded the treatment capacity on the island, the patients were urgently evacuated by helicopter to the mainland for advanced medical care.

Throughout the mission, the flight crew and military medical personnel closely coordinated to ensure absolute safety for both the patients and the flight.
