Deputy defense minister presents gifts to VAVA
PANO - In celebration of the upcoming lunar New Year 2024, on January 18, a delegation from the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, led by Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defense and Head of the Standing Board of Steering Committee 701 (the National Steering Committee on the Settlement of Post-war Unexploded Ordnance and Toxic Chemical Consequences), visited and presented gifts to the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange (VAVA).
The delegation was warmly welcomed by Lieutenant General Nguyen Huu Chinh, President of VAVA, along with the personnel of the Central Committee of VAVA.
Speaking at the event, Sr. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien congratulated VAVA on the successful organization of its 5th Congress for the 2023-2028 term. He expressed deep gratitude for the sacrifices made by previous generations in the cause of national liberation and defense of the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam. The deputy defense minister emphasized that the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense always prioritize policies that contribute to healing the mental and emotional wounds, easing the pain for individuals and families who suffered losses during the war, especially Agent Orange (AO) victims. He further highlighted that this occasion provided an opportunity to continue educating and nurturing a patriotic spirit and social responsibility among the generations of officers and soldiers throughout the armed forces.
Gen. Chien suggested that VAVA continues its efforts in raising awareness, gathering international support for the ongoing struggle to seek justice for Vietnamese AO victims. He encouraged VAVA to attract resources and collaboration from both domestic and international organizations and individuals to support AO victims, improving their quality of life.
Wishing everyone a safe, warm, and happy lunar New Year, Gen. Chien extended his greetings and best wishes to all officials, AO victims, and their families nationwide.
