Defense Ministry inspects joint command against IUU fishing
PANO - In order to well fulfill assigned tasks and combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, on January 18, a delegation of the Ministry of National Defense (MND), led by Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Binh, Head of the MND Steering Committee on IUU fishing prevention, inspected the joint command against IUU fishing located at the headquarters of the Coast Guard Region 4 Command.
On the occasion, the delegation inspected task implementation of the joint command against IUU fishing, and the operation of ships and trawlers at sea, to name but a few.
Speaking at the working session, Gen. Binh hailed the troops’ efforts in implementing MND’s directives in this field as scheduled, meeting set targets. He also spoke highly of the troops’ activeness in addressing any Vietnamese trawler violating IUU regulations.
Gen. Binh requested the joint command to continue to grasp situations and implement all directives and instructions of leaders at all levels, while closely working with the Coast Guard Region 4 Command and local authorities to disseminate law and address any arising issues in a timely manner, on the basis of the State’s law and international treaties to which Vietnam is a member.

In addition, functional forces should make recommendations and build scenarios to handle all circumstances effectively and safely, contributing to soon removing the European Commission’s “yellow card” on Vietnamese seafood.
