Earlier, the trawler numbered QNg 90762TS, captained by Lai Van Bang, born in 1987 from Nam Dinh province, went adrift due to engine failure about 27 nautical miles Southeast of Con Co Island amid rough sea and strong wind. The trawler was on its way from Da Nang to Nam Dinh.
After receiving the mayday signal at 21:35 on October 23, Ship 9002 performing her duty nearby rushed to the scene for the rescue mission.
At 1:15 on October 24, Ship 9002 approached the troubled trawler and towed it with all three crew-members on board to Thuan An Port.
The ship then handed over the trawler and crew-members to the Border Station of Thuan An Port under the Thua Thien Hue provincial Border Guard Command.
