Troops of the Coast Guard Region 3 Command disseminate fishing regulations to fishermen.

At the event, naval troops briefed delegates and 300 local youths, students, residents, and ship owners on situations in the East Sea (South China Sea), the importance of national sea and islands to the national building and defense cause, the consistent guidelines and policies of the Party and the State on Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelagoes, and maritime security and safety situation. 

In addition, participants were instructed on how to define the baseline, internal, territorial, and contiguous waters, exclusive economic zone, and continental shelf according to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982 and provided with basic contents of the Vietnam Law on the Sea, the Law on the Vietnam Coast Guard, the Law on Drug Prevention and Control, and regulations on prevention of illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.    

On the occasion, the organizing panel visited and handed over 300 gifts to and cooperated with Nguoi Lao dong (the Laborer) Newspaper to hand over 2,200 national flags to policy families and needy fishermen in Tan Thanh and Tan Thuan communes. The total cost of the gifts was more than VND 400 million.

This was the sixth time that the “Coast guards stand by fishermen” program had been held in Binh Thuan province. This event aimed to strengthen the connectivity between naval troops and local people, raise people’s patriotism and love for national sea and islands, and enhance their responsibility for firmly safeguarding national sovereignty and ensuring maritime security and safety. 

The same day, Reconnaissance Team 1 of the Vietnam Coast Guard worked with the people’s committeep of Giao Hai commune of Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh province and Quat Lam Border Post of the provincial border guard command to organize similar activities in the locality.

Policy beneficiaries receive gifts.

Through different dissemination methods, the organizing panel helped fishermen and religious practitioners grasp regulations on fishing at sea and encouraged them to join the fight against crime.    

Affirming the significance of the program, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Giao Hai commune Tran Duc Phat expected that the coast guard force would continue the program to raise the public’s knowledge about regulations on fishing at sea, thus encouraging them to abide by the law and keep fishing to contribute the force’s efforts to firmly safeguarding national sovereignty over sea and islands.

On the occasion, the mission handed over 72 gifts to policy beneficiaries and needy students; distributed 600 documents and leaflets; and presented 200 national flags to fishermen in Tien Nang fishing port in Giao Hai commune.
